My autobiography

C. MIKE LOGAN.

Business Owner & Head Coach

I was born in Providence, Rhode Island. I grew up in a neighborhood where poverty, bullying, and violence were part of everyday life. Both of my parents worked, and there were eight children in our home. I was the youngest, the only boy, with seven older sisters.

People sometimes assume that being the youngest and the only boy meant I was spoiled. My experience was the opposite. My father was strict. I had chores, responsibilities, and an early expectation that I would help look after my sisters. I learned how to adapt, feed myself, stay strong, and become a protector.

I also dealt with sickness while growing up, without always having access to the care available in other communities. Survival was not an abstract idea to me. It meant learning how to take responsibility for my body, my surroundings, and the people I loved.

The beginning

I HAD TO LEARN TO PROTECT MYSELF.

One neighborhood bully used to chase me. One day he caught me and punched me in the stomach. I had never been hit like that before. That moment made something clear: I needed to learn how to protect myself.

I started martial arts at nine years old and began learning to box at eleven. By about fourteen, I was taking the training seriously. What began as a response to fear grew into discipline, skill, and a lifelong study.

The experience also taught me that protection was not only for me. Many people never receive the knowledge, support, or opportunity to defend themselves and improve their circumstances. Training gradually became something I wanted to share.

Learning the work

SKILL HAS TO BE CULTIVATED.

For years, I trained in hard martial arts styles and became capable of handling physical conflict. One instructor saw that I had developed toughness, but he also saw that I needed calm. He encouraged me to study kung fu and develop a more peaceful spirit.

I came to understand kung fu as work cultivated through patience, repetition, and time. Fighting is only one small part of that idea. A person can develop kung fu in any craft when they commit themselves to becoming skillful.

That lesson changed my definition of strength. Strength was no longer only the ability to strike or resist. It was also the ability to remain organized, aware, and purposeful when everything around me became chaotic.

From survival to stillness

TAI CHI CHANGED THE DIRECTION.

I began studying Tai Chi in 1979. At first I did not fully understand what my instructor meant when he told me to calm down and develop a quieter spirit. That understanding came gradually through years of practice.

Tai Chi taught me to examine the relationship between mind and body. The mind carries intention. The body carries action. Balance is created when the two stop working as separate forces and begin operating together.

I describe meditation as an inward mirror. A dirty or cracked mirror cannot give a clear reflection. In the same way, distraction, ego, anger, and constant mental noise make it difficult to see ourselves clearly. Stillness creates room for honest awareness.

I call one part of that practice Self No Ness. The goal is to move beyond the usual chatter of the conscious ego and experience awareness more directly. Tai Chi practice begins from neutrality, where the mind becomes quiet enough to receive, organize, and respond.

Decades in development

THE BIRTH OF GETLOGANIZED.

A friend once told me that the work I was doing should simply be called GetLoganized. It took time for me to recognize how well the name expressed the experience I wanted to create.

After decades of studying Tai Chi theory, Tai Chi practice, boxing theory, exercise, and movement, I began bringing those ideas together as my own system. Tai Chi Boxercising combines the principles of Tai Chi with boxing and physical conditioning.

I do not present it as another random workout. It is a way to study movement, health, self awareness, and personal development together. I built it so people could train the body while learning to manage the mind and understand their own potential.

I am analog by nature and had to become more comfortable with the digital world. GetLoganized is how I am bringing this work online so the method can reach people beyond the room where I am teaching.

A broader defense

WHAT ARE YOU PROTECTING YOURSELF FROM?

Many people define self defense only as protection from another person. My definition goes further. Sometimes the strongest threat a person faces comes from within.

What we eat, how we think, how we behave, and how we function can place our health and future in danger. Self defense also means learning to recognize those patterns and developing the discipline to choose differently.

This is why GetLoganized addresses more than physical ability. The training is meant to support physical, psychological, emotional, and personal development.

Challenges and direction

THE PRACTICE HELPED ME CONTINUE.

I grew up hearing impaired and experienced challenges associated with ADHD. I also had to navigate the pressure and expectations of the environment around me.

Tai Chi, meditation, and exercise gave me ways to slow down, organize my attention, reflect, and keep moving forward. Those practices became part of how I survived and how I learned to understand myself.

That experience informs my interest in personal fitness, motivational speaking, life coaching, and ADHD coaching. Each path returns to the same purpose: helping people recognize their ability and take the next step.

My purpose

HELP PEOPLE DISCOVER WHO THEY ARE, WHAT THEY CAN ACHIEVE, AND THE HIGHEST VERSION OF WHO THEY CAN BECOME.

My goal is not limited to teaching exercises. I want people to define their purpose, discover their potential, and develop the physical and mental discipline required to continue toward it.

When someone is afraid to begin, my message is simple: never decide that you cannot before you try. Do not quit on yourself. Take the first step, stay with the work, and give yourself the opportunity to become more.
